Powerful Scriptures for Wisdom’ by Daily Bible Audio

“’Again, you have heard that the ancients were told, ‘You shall not make false vows, but shall fulfil your vows to the Lord.’  But I say to you, make no oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, or by the earth, for it is the footstool of His feet, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King.

“’Nor shall you make an oath by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black.  But let your statement be, ‘Yes, yes’ or ‘No, no’; anything beyond these is of evil.’” Matthew 5:33-37

“Now when you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap to the very corners of your field, nor shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest.  Nor shall you glean your vineyard, nor shall you gather the fallen fruit of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the needy and for the stranger.  I am the Lord your God.

“’You shall not steal, nor deal falsely, nor lie to one another.  You shall not swear falsely by My name, so as to profane the name of your god; I am the Lord.” Leviticus 19:12

Jesus referenced Leviticus a number of times, as He taught about how we could live out the challenge of holiness.  Today, many have no clue what it means to keep your word.  Greed and division has insinuated itself more firmly into businesses, media and even some churches.

Jesus teaching on the simpleness of saying what you mean and meaning what you say, is not popular -- because doing so exposes you to vulnerability and failure.

I had the privilege of working in the ministry Christian Financial Concepts and learned that surprisingly the Bible speaks of handling wealth more than any other topic!

When I lived in Australia and New Zealand, I wrote a course and taught through Larry’s book, Business by the Book[1], a classic that highlights the many references to managing and handling wealth based solely on the Bible.

Every time I taught through the course, seasoned business leaders who attended, would argue for the ‘practicalities’ of the real world and how those ideas may have been alright in ‘the old days’ but today conducting business is entirely differently.

“Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith.  Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:7-8

I may not like what Scripture teaches me sometimes, yet, what is written there is for my good and His glory.  It is up to me to trust Him.

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays for you each day)
