First Promise of Easter

“When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.  Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew they were naked,” Genesis 3:6-7a

“And the Lord God said to the serpent, ‘Because you have done this, cursed are you more than all the cattle and more than any beast of the field; on your belly shall you go, and dust shall you eat all the days of your life; and I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, and you shall bruise Him on the heel.’” Genesis 3:14-15

Here are some thoughts to consider when reading this passage.  The book of Genesis, “sets the stage” for the rest of the Bible – establishes the theme.  These are the first words spoken by the Lord after the Fall.  The phrase “eating dust” refers to total defeat (Isa 65:23, Micah 7:17).  “Enmity" indicates war not just being enemies but between two sides:  the seed of the snake (Satan) and the seed of the woman (Jesus Christ).  In most versions "bruise you on the head" means to crush the head and to "bruise you on the heel" is about repeated attempts to defeat the Lord.  Yet, He was victorious over all attempts to stop God’s plan for you and all mankind!

“’For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.  For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through Him.  He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.’” John 3:16-18

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene
