Surrender & Active Obedience

“Make me know Thy ways, O Lord; teach me Thy paths.  Lead me in Thy truth and teach me, for Thou art the God of my salvation for Thee I wait all day.  Remember, O Lord, Thy compassion and Thy lovingkindnesses, for they have been from of old.  Do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to Thy lovingkindness remember Thou me, for Thy goodness sake, O Lord.

“Good and upright is the Lord; therefore He instructs sinners in the way.  He leads the humble in justice, and He teaches the humble His way.  All the paths of the Lord are lovingkindness and truth to those who keep His covenant and His testimonies.  For Thy name’s sake, O Lord, pardon my iniquity, for it is great.” Psalm 24:4-11

“Obedience is an issue at the basis of all genuine Christian experience.  The Christian life begins with surrender and the acknowledgment of the authority of Christ as Lord over our lives.  But that initial surrender must be followed by ACTIVE obedience to the general instruction of Scripture and the particular direction of God over our personal lives.  Our experience of the power and sufficiency of God will only be in context of obedience.  God’s power is available only for God’s purposes.”*

“Restore to me the joy of Thy salvation and sustain mew with a willing spirit.” Psalm 51:12

Remember the day you realised the immensity of your sin; your complete inability to do anything to change this; the moment of surrender?  The moment you realised there was no way you could ever make up for all the debt you owed and you let go and rested in the arms of Jesus for the first time?  From then on it’s a purposeful exercise in your daily walk to remember your life is, ideally, to be lived for His purposes, not yours...another issue of trust!  And when you wonder why you aren’t happy...well perhaps the refrain of an old hymn may shed light:  Trust and obey, for there's no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.”

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene
