More Peace

“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.  He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters.  He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me.

“Thou does prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; Thou hast anointed my head with oil; mmy cut overflows.  Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalm 23

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice!  Let your forbearing spirit be known to all men.  The Lord is near.  Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.  And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

“He [Paul] acknowledges there will be situations where we would normally be anxious, but instead of being anxious, present the situation to God and LEAVE it with Him.  If you can trust Him, you will not need to worry anymore, because He will take care of the situation, and He won’t worry about our problems either, for He doesn’t even worry about His own, so instead of panic, there is peace, and it is a ‘peace’ which ‘transcends all understanding’ which means you may not be able to explain it to people who think you ought to be a little more troubled about the problem than you are!  God does not invite us to escape from our problems, but to prove His sufficiency WITHIN them!”*

The first Scripture I memorised was Psalm 23.  I was nine and it was my first exposure to God’s Word.  As I look back over a very interesting life, it would be impossible to estimate how many times that verse has helped me stay closer to the Lord and endeavour, through my difficulties and weaknesses, to trust Him more and more.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene
