Forgive-Forget

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” I John 1:9

“And Peter said to them, ‘Repent, and let each of you be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:38

“’And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.  And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  {For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever, Amen.}  But if you do not forgive men, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.’”Matthew 6:12-15

“Scripture is clear that we need to confess our sins and repent of them before God, and we must extend the same forgiveness towards others that we anticipate God will show toward us.  I cannot receive forgiveness from God, whilst refusing to forgive someone else.”*

When we eventually kneel at the cross and offer our lives, such as they are to the Father, we come “without one plea” helpless and dependent on Christ’s payment offered in grace to us as a gift...we are forgiven.

As the Holy Spirit takes up residence in our life, we feel Him as He convicts us of any stubborn unforgiveness we bear toward others.  So we offer this to Him and ask Him to give us the strength to forgive those who have wronged us.  As we do, we also realise that forgiving is not the same as forgetting.  Remembering an abuse, for instance, may help us protect ourselves in the future, yet we can forgive when we remember how much He forgave us!

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene
