Phantom Limb

“Where can I go from Thy Spirit?  Or where can I fell from Thy presence?  If I ascent to heaven, Thou art there; if I make my bed in Sheol, behold, Thou art there.  If I take the wings of the dawn, If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, even there Thy hand will lead me, and Thy right hand will lay hold of me.  If I say, ‘Surely the darkness will overwhelm me, and the light around me will be night,’ Even the darkness is not dark to Thee, and the night is as bright as the day.” Psalm 139:7-12a

“When I had first met Richard, he was like an estranged lover in the early stages of separation and divorce – from God.  Anger smouldered in his eyes.  But when I saw him five years later, it was clear that the passage of time had mellowed him.  His passion would still break out as we talked, but mingled with wistfulness, or nostalgia.  He could not put God completely out of mind, and God’s absence made itself felt, hauntingly, like pain from a phantom limb.”*

We started with a disenchanted Richard, disengaging with God...turning his back on him, walking off in a huff because God did not perform according to his expectations.  And yet God NEVER let Richard forget the feeling of leaning on the Rock of Ages!

We are nearing the end of the book, Disappointment With God, and I thank everyone for reading these devotions during the week (or whenever you do get a chance to read them).  Now would be a good time to look over them again and see God speaking with you!  (and please let me know if you have been blessed by this book.  I’m looking at the next series being either Romans or around the book, Hinds’ Feet On High Places.  If you have an opinion or a different idea, please let me know.)

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene
