Not Giving Up!

“’You are My witnesses,’ declares the Lord, ‘and My servant in whom I have chosen, in order that you may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He.  Before Me there was no God formed, and there will be none after Me.  I, even I, am the Lord.  And there is no saviour besides Me.  It is I who have declared and saved and proclaimed, and there was no strange god among you; so you are My witnesses,’ declares the Lord, ‘And I am God.  Even from eternity I am He; and there is none who can deliver out of My hand; I act and who can reverse it?’” Isaiah 43:10-13

In Travels in Hyper Reality, “Italian author Umberto Eco tells of a day when, at the age of thirteen, he accompanied his father to a soccer match.  Umberto did not really enjoy sports, and as he sat in the stadium observing the game his mind began to wander. ‘As I was observing with detachment, the senseless movements down there on the field, I felt how the high noonday sun seemed to enfold the men and things in a chilling light, and how before my eyes a cosmic, meaningless performance was proceeding...For the first time I doubted the existence of God and decided that the world was a pointless fiction.’”*

I have a most wonderful friend, named Ken.  He and I worked on his Masters dissertation on comparative religion.  I had never met anyone who spoke of his aching desire to believe in the saving grace of Christ...and his doubt to “cross the line of no-faith to faith” was his constant struggle.  As far as I know, he never took that step, although I offered every “witness” I knew of to him.  Sometimes the proof around someone and the words of another in testimony of the joy and peace of their faith is not enough...but God has an appointment with everyone and He never gives up on anyone!

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene
