“Whatever you devise against the Lord, He will make a
complete end of it. Distress will not
rise up twice. Like tangled thorns, and
like those who are drunken with their drink, they are consumed as stubble
completely withered. From you has gone
forth one who plotted evil against the Lord, a wicked counsellor.
“Thus says the Lord, ‘Though they are at full strength
and likewise many, even so they will be cut off and pass away. Though I have afflicted you, I will afflict
you no longer. So now, I will break his
yoke bar from upon you, and I will tear off your shackles.’” Nahum 1:9-13
Remember Jonah and how he reluctantly obeyed God and went to
Nineveh to warn the inhabitants to turn to God.
They listened and turned from their wicked ways. But now it is a hundred years later.
God sends Nahum Nineveh again to pronounce God’s judgment on
this wicked nation. It had forgotten the
Lord and become a bloody and evil city filled with arrogance, idolatry, murder,
lies, treachery and social injustice.
God took such decisive action against Nineveh that He destroyed
it so that its ruins weren’t even identified till 1845. We must never take the compassion and patience
of our Lord for ‘permission to do what is right in our own eyes.’
Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still
prays for you daily)
