Prosperity Breeds Contempt

The Doxology | Anthem Lights ft. Selah

“’For the land will be abandoned by them, and will make up for its sabbaths while it is made desolate without them.  They, meanwhile, will be making amends for their iniquity, because they rejected My ordinances and their soul abhorred My statutes.

“’Yet in spite of this, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them nor will I so abhor them as to destroy [consume] them, breaking My covenant with them; for I am the Lord their God.

“’But I will remember for them the covenant with their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God.  I am the Lord.’” Leviticus 26:43-45

God often uses punishment to awaken us when we stray from His path, like a good father.  A sad commentary on human nature (so clearly and often illustrated in God’s Word) is that in prosperity we tend to forget God from whom all blessings flow.

God then may correct our path with personal -- and eventually effective -- punishment and disappointment to reach our hearts.  This remind us that He knows best and we must trust Him.  The wise child of God chooses to stay close to Him in the first place and rejoice in His provision without having to wander often in the weeds of God’s discipline.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who still prays for you each morning.  Darlene

PS:  Please pray for this ministry.  This is the 20th year of endeavouring to serve others in His name to offer a smattering of Scripture daily.  Find my statement of faith by clicking (or cut and paste this link into your Web browser):  https://especiallyhislove.blogspot.com   You can find the WeakDay Devotion online by doing a Google search for “WeakDay Devotion”  (Also, there is a “Google Blogger” App you can download to read them on your phone.)

NEW PRAYER REQUESTS

·        Update - Robin age 52, recently diagnosed with breast cancer in her lymph nodes had a lumpectomy last Wednesday.  Surgeon took 16 lymph nodes. Only two were positive (he said three or less is good news).  He got all the cancer. Now it’s up to other doctor to decide treatment.  Not out of woods yet but at least it's not spread a bunch which doctors said was very good news. Please keep praying for her and her family during this long process.
·        Doris (my second Mom) - now 100 – has fallen twice in the past three weeks and hit her head hard both times. PTL no broken bones or concussion.  She is very sore though and starting PT & OT therapy again. She lost one of her new hearing aids now, too.
·        Paul –Has not had paying work since 2010.  Please pray for his ongoing resilience and that the Lord would allow him to be successful with a role.  I know the Lord is watching over him because of your prayers.  Most of all, pray his heart melts enough for the Truth to touch him where it hurts.  Pray for my wisdom and patience as he continues to stay here.
·        USA – that the Lord would demonstrate His power in an unexpected and uniting way during these times of unrest and confusion.  Help hearts settle and rest in Him alone.
·        Sergio – lost his job and is now looking again.  He was recently diagnosed with adult-onset diabetes.  Was living with his brother, but has been asked to move out, leaving him homeless.
·        Toron – finishing his high school studies needs your prayers for continued strength, focus and confidence, especially with maths.

PRAY FOR THOSE IN FULL-TIME SERVICE
