"My counsel is this:  Live freely animated and motivated by God's Spirit.  Then you won't feed the compulsions of selfishness.  For there is a root of sinful self-interest in us that is at odds with a free spirit, just as the free spirit is incompatible with selfishness.

"These two ways of life are antithetical, so that you cannot live at times one way and at times another way according to how you feel on any given day.  Why don't you choose to be led by the Spirit and so escape the erratic compulsions of a law-dominated existence?" ." The Message

There is a bumper sticker I believe should be restricted to the Christian community.  It says:  "Christians aren't perfect, they're just forgiven."

It is deeply misunderstood by "pre-Christians" to mean Christians can get away with anything and still go to Heaven (which is true).  It is also misunderstood by Christians to mean that no matter what they do, once they are saved, their mistakes, their obedience does not really matter.  It does!

Our world is filled with rules, standards and guidelines.  They are at home, at school, at our work, when we are in public places, in private places, when we go to the theatre, a sports event...even when we are in church.  From childhood we are raised to know if we do the right thing we will get a proverbial pat on the head, a thank you, a well done.

In truth, it is easier to keep the rules than surrender your will to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.  And it would be Satan's primary lie that keeping the rules is what life is all about.

Keeping the rules is nice, but it is not enough.  In fact, Romans 3:19-20 tells us that the Law - the rules -- are only there to prove to each of us that we CANNOT keep them and NEED a Saviour.

Freedom is not license to do anything.  Every human is free to do what they wish and if we only do what we do to receive accolades then we are missing the point of freedom.  In Christ we are truly free, not to do what we want to do, but free to respond and act in obedience to the will of the Holy Spirit.  And sometimes those outside the Body will see this as totally unfair and utterly ridiculous.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who prays for you each morning and hopes you will note all the prayer updates, Darlene

  • ·        Continue to pray for the special person you identified a few weeks ago in your assignment until they fall into His arms.  Then you can pick another to pray for!

URGENT PRAYER REQUEST

  • ·        LATEST UPDATE - Adrian - exhausted from weekly cancer infusion, ASKING for additional prayer:  Has waited years for surgery to repair his crushed left shoulder - now scheduled for THIS Friday (16th) at the Prince Charles hospital.  He is quite concerned at what they will finally do.  He will be picked up by ambulance at 7 AM that day and he should be in for about 3-4 days.  Thankfully, the Leukaemia Foundation has also contacted him and will speak with him while he is hospitalised.  He is increasingly dependent on the prayers of the Body of Christ!  Please also pray for his companion dog, Toby, to remain healthy.  He is very important to Adrian's mental well-being and a clear gift from the Lord during this time of pain and loneliness.
  • ·        UPDATE - Paul - has a third interview with an organisation today.  I grow concerned for him, though, as he tries not to feel discouraged.  Most of all pray his heart melts enough for the Truth to touch him where it hurts.  He has not had work since 2011!!
  • ·        UPDATE - BG - has had a series of tests and examinations and a few more to go, indicating the massive headaches he has been having were mini-strokes.  Test results show his pituitary gland is alright.  He needs our prayers at this time to strengthen him and keep him calm.
  • ·        UPDATE - JR - is home.  Celebrating life and filling his days with pleasant memories.  More tests to go.  Attitude is good, considering he has rapidly advancing small cell carcinoma in his brain.  Please pray for him and the quality of life and time he has, for his wife Jenny, his family, friends and the health carers as they deal with this serious situation.  Pray most of all that his heart opens to the love and grace of Jesus' gift of grace.
  • ·        UPDATE - My brother, Tim - Pray for strength, wisdom, courage, health and patience as he ministers to his dear and precious friend, JR (and Dale), during this difficult time.  And that God gives him the words to say to touch JR's heart.  Tim has shared his testimony with JR and cares about him very much.
