Justification in the Beatitudes

[Jesus teaching] "'For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.  For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world would be saved through Him.'" John 3:16-17

"Then Jesus said to His disciples, 'If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.  For whoever wishes to save his life shall lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake shall find it.  For what will a man be profited, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul?  Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?'" Matthew 16:24-26

"For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works that no one should boast.  For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." Ephesians 2:8-10

Jesus sat down and gathered His disciples around Him for a hard talk about getting their lives right with His Father, God, before they could BE disciples.  This is justification (the Lord cleanse our lives so it is as if we have no sin - past, present and future)

The Beatitudes teach us we must first realise how truly poor in spirit we are -- how we must mourn over our sin.  We learn He is the good Shepherd who comforts and feeds us until we are satisfied.

When our lives are in His hands we begin to demonstrate outwardly the inward changes to others through our mercies and hopefulness.  We acknowledge peace has no chance in our hearts or the world without Him as Lord of our lives.  That even though we will be persecuted in this life, we can rejoice at our decision to be one of His followers, because He has overcome the world.

Next, we will look at sanctification in the images of the "fruit of the Spirit" in Galatians 5:22-26.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who prays for you each morning, Darlene

  • ·        Continue to pray for the special person you identified a few weeks ago in your assignment until they fall into His arms.  Then you can pick another to pray for!

  • ·        UPDATE - My brother, Tim - Pray for strength, wisdom, courage, health and patience as he ministers to his dear and precious friend, JR (and Dale), during this difficult time.  Tim has shared his testimony with JR and cares about him very much.  The weather is a bit better for Tim with his COPD.
