How to Get the Holy Spirit

"For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.  For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did; sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit."  Romans 8:2-4

"However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you.  But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.  And if Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness."  Romans 8:9-10

We've looked at the teaching of Jesus to those who would be His disciples, not just His followers.  As we shift to peer into the "bowl of Spiritual fruit" there is a key question to ask and it is NOT "Do you have the Holy Spirit?"

Actually, that question should NOT be put to a Christian because every Christian has the Spirit from the moment they believe.  There is no going on a search for the Spirit, going to a class to get it, no laying on of hands to receive it from another.

He comes to live within you from the first instant you receive Jesus Christ.  He does not, however, take over anything unless you give Him permission.  (Keep in mind the bumper sticker:  Christians aren't perfect, they're forgiven.)

If you are unsure, it is time to go back to the beginning and ask yourself if you have come personally to accept the gift of salvation by grace through Jesus Christ in faith and repentance.

You ONLY receive the Holy Spirit by receiving Christ, not in ANY other way, and the idea that you or anyone can have the Spirit and be 'spiritual' apart from this personal encounter with the risen Lord is simply wrong!

More on this topic tomorrow as it is CRITICAL for any fruit to grow!

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who prays for you each morning, Darlene

·        Continue to pray for the special person you identified a few weeks ago in your assignment until they fall into His arms.  Then you can pick another to pray for!
