“If
therefore there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consoloation of
love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and
compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the
same love, united in spirit, intent on
one purpose.
“Do
nothing from selfish or empty conceit, but with humility of mind let each of
you regard one another as more important than himself; do not mere look out for
your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.” Philippians2:1-4
“Is
there any such thing as Christians cheering each other up? Do you love me [Paul] enough to help me? Does it mean anything to you that we are
brothers in the Lord, sharing the same Spirit?
Are your hearts tender and sympathetic at all? Then make me truly happy by loving each other
and agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, working together with one heart
and mind and purpose.
“Don’t
be selfish; don’t live to make a good impression on others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than
yourself. Don’t just think about your
own affairs, but be interested in others, too, and in what they are doing.”
Philippians 2:1-4 (Living Paraphrase)
“The
wording ‘consider others better than ourselves, [in some translations] may
sound as though it involves a value judgment that considers oneself to be not
as good as others, but the New American Standard Version translates is
helpfully: ‘But with humility of mind
let each of you regard one another as more important than himself.’ That is the essence of ‘agape’ love,
considering others as ‘more important’ than yourself. One of the evidences that you are loved by
someone is that you begin to feel important to them. With the Holy Spirit at work in our lives,
people become important, and there is a new attitude toward them in general.”*
A
tenderness, a concern for others can play itself out in many ways when the Holy
Spirit indwells you..yet it will be more evident than ever before in your life.
Take
care with love, especially His! Your
servant and friend in Christ, Darlene
