“’You have heard that it was
said, ‘You shall love your neighbour, and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray
for those who persecute you in order that you may be sons of your Father who is
in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends
rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
“’For if you love those who
love you, what reward have you? Do not
even the tax gatherers do the same? And
if you greet your brother only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? Therefore you are to be perfect, as your
heavenly Father is perfect.’” Matthew 5:43-48
“Love
is more than a feeling toward people we like.
It is an attitude, even towards those we might not like or get on with
naturally, which says, ‘That person is more important to me than I am to myself
in the moments that I am involved with them.”*
We
are not what we have or what we do...and our behaviour and belongs have nothing
to do with what is loveable about us.
When we look at another person we cannot judge their hearts, but we can
see their behaviours. Loving the person
is about loving the person...not necessarily their behaviours or belongings.
Take
care with love, especially His! Your
servant and friend in Christ, Darlene
