Negotiation for Salvation?

"And looking at him, Jesus felt a love for him, and said to him, ‘One thing you lack; go and sell all you possess, and give it to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.’” Mark 10:21

“’Do not lay up for your treasures upon earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.  But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where thieves do not break in and steal; for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.’” Matthew 6:19-21

“Like it or not, that was Jesus’ very precise prescription for receiving eternal life!  -- As far as we know, he never did receive eternal life.  Jesus did not call the man back and say something like, ‘I am sorry I made it so hard for you.  I didn’t mean to frighten you away.  Let’s negotiate a relationship.  What kind of Christian would you like to be?  If you are not willing to sell everything, how much are you prepared to give away?’  The terms of receiving eternal life were not open to discussion, negotiation or compromise.”*

Living out your life as a Christian is about “heart attitude”.  God owns the cattle on a thousand hills, He does not need your stuff, He only needs your heart abandoned to His will.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene
