Christ as Servant?

“For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God; if we are of sound mind, it is for you.  For the love of Christ controls us, having concluded this, that one died for all, therefore all died; and He died for all that they who live should no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf.

“Therefore from now on we recognise no man according to the flesh; even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer.  Therefore, if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things pass away; behold, new things have come.” II Corinthians 5:13-17

“Do you see the basic problem with the rich young ruler?  He wanted Christ as his servant, but not as his master.  He wanted Christ to meet his need, but not to tell him what to do.  There is no experience of God on those terms.”*

Surely Christ came to serve as an example for us to attract us; yet He saved us to demonstrate that choosing Him means we too demonstrate our changed life as an example for pre-Christians to attract them to Him.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene
