Counting the Cost

“Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.  For whoever wishes to save his life, shall lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake shall find it.  For what will a man be profited, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul.  Or what will a man given in exchange for his soul?

“’For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and will then recompense every man according to his deeds.  Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who shall not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.’” Matthew 16:24-28

“However, in the ministry of Jesus Christ He never talked about salvation being free.  He always talked about it being costly.  Furthermore, He instructed people to count the cost and respond on the basis of a willingness to pay that cost.  For the Christian life to be ‘free’ does not mean that it is ‘cheap’, that it is obtainable by little more than nodding one’s head in God’s direction, or by just believing a few facts about Him.  There is a cost that must be met.”*

During my time in the Navigator ministries, I first heard Don Lanier speak of the cost of discipleship.  For you see salvation is by grace, yet the cost of discipleship is high.  It is a willingness to be willing to listen, hear and choose to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit within us.

Please take extra time with the prayer list today and please send me some updates.  I realise the list is growing long and is sometimes repetitive, but many need our prayers today!

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene
