By God Questions Ministries (7 min 11 Sec)
“Now when Job’s three friends heard of all this adversity
that had come upon him, they came each one from his own place, Eliphaz the
Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamatite, and they made an
appointment together to come to sympathise with him and comfort him.
“When they lifted up their eyes at a distance and did not
recognise him, they raised their voices and wept. And each of them tore his robe and they threw
dust over their heads toward the sky.
Then they sat down on the ground with him for seven days and seven
nights with no one speaking a word to him, for they saw that his pain was very
great.” Job 2:11-13
I was surprised that there are no ‘recognised’ promises in
the book of Job and was just going to skip it and move on, and yet, I had to
wonder. The book of Job is brimming with
huge lessons and one of them is silence.
The wise silence of Jobs three friends, who once they opened
their mouths, were either accusatory or completely wrong with their advice. The obvious and perplexing silence of God
through it all.
Some look at the book of Job and think it is a story about
God playing ‘cat and mouse’ with man, but it is SO much more!
Sometimes we too may think that God is playing cruel cosmic
jokes on helpless puppets, but He knows all.
His timing is so perfect we do not even have the capacity to recognise
it. But most critical of all, His love
is so immense and unfathomable that we are never able to understand it.
Just think. He
promised to find a perfect solution to the sinful choices we all make every
day. When He discovered it, even
recognising the personal cost to Him, He chose to use that solution for us,
knowing it would take the life of His only Son Jesus Christ.
When God seems to not be paying attention to your prayers
and your knees are sore, do not give up because the ‘effectual prayer of a righteous
person can accomplish much’. (James 5:16)
because He promised.
Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still
prays for you daily)
