Scriptures on Avoiding Temptation (Audio Bible)

By DailyEffectivePrayer

“You shall fear only the Lord your God; and you shall worship Him and swear by His name.  You shall not follow other gods, any of the gods of the peoples who surround, for the Lord your God in the midst of you is a jealous God; otherwise the anger of the Lord your God will be kindled against you, and He will wipe you off the face of the earth.  You shall not put the Lord your God to the test, as you tested Him at Massah.” Deuteronomy 6:13-16

“’He humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you understand that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord.”’ Deuteronomy 8:3

“’But He answered and said, ‘it is written, ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’’ Then the devil took Him into the holy city and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, ‘If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down’ for it is written, ‘He will command His angels concerning You’;  and ‘on their hands they will bear You up, so that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.’’

“Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory; and he said to Him, ‘All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me.’  Then Jesus said to him, ‘Go, Satan!  For it is written, ‘You shall worship the You’re your God, and serve Him only.’’ Matthew 4:4-10 (and Luke 4:4-12)

There are some who fear being tempted is the same as sin, but it is not.  In fact, when you are tempted, that temptation is like an early warning system, to remind you -- as a believers in the Lord’s gracious salvation --that He is there to help you resist and overcome your temptation, so sin doesn’t have victory in your life.

We are all tempted -- that includes Jesus who was tempted in more ways than we read about because He was fully human.  In a way, temptation itself can be a warning that alerts us that our thought, desires and potential words or actions need to be reconsidered.  But do not confuse temptation with sin.  Temptation is NOT the problem.  The challenge lays in how we respond to temptation.

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays for you each day)
