“And the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a blazing fire from the midst of a bush; and he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire yet the bush was not consumed.  So Moses said, ‘I must turn aside now, and see this marvellous sight, why the bush is not burned up.’

“When the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush, and said, ‘Moses.  Moses!  And he said, ‘Here I am.’  Then He said, ‘Do not come near here; removed your sandals you’re your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.’

“He said also, ‘I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’  Then Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.

…And God , furthermore, said to Moses, ‘Thus you shall say to the sons of  Israel, ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob has sent me to you.’  This is My name forever, and this is My memorial-name for all generations.’” Exodus 3:2-6, 15

“’But regarding the resurrection of the dead, have you not read that which was spoken to you by God, saying, ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’?  He is not the God of the dead but of the living.’” Matthew 22:32

“’But regarding the fact that the dead rise again, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the passage about the burning bush, how God spoke to him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’?’” Mark 12:26

“’But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed, in the passage about the burning bush, where he calls the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’” Luke 20:37

Exodus is one of the top most-quoted-by-Jesus books.  It is the second book of the Jewish Torah and very important because it outlines the foundational history of God’s chosen people.  Jesus often used this book to remind the Jews of things they seemed to have forgotten – of God’s faithfulness, deliverance, and provision.

I still get chills when I watch the movie Ten Commandments.  Charlton Heston playing the part of Moses sees the burning bush that is not consumed, and God tells him to take off his sandals for the ground he stands on is holy ground.  It was a sweet and not-understood reference to His impending death and resurrection.

As we near the celebration of Jesus victory over the finality of death in Easter, it might be a good time to forego the ‘familiarity’ with the Almighty and remember His unmatchable attributes and take off our ‘sandals’ and fall to our knees with gratefulness for His love and mercy.

He is worthy of our humble worship for His volunteer death and His subsequent resurrection.  It was the only solution to the grip that sin has on us all.  What a Saviour!

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays for you each day)
