A Smouldering Wick and a Live Dog

"For I have taken all this to my heart and explain it that righteous men, wise men, and their deeds are in the hand of God.  Man does not know whether it will be love or hatred; anything awaits him.  It is the same for all.  There is no one fate for the righteous and for the wicked; for the good, for the clean, and for the unclean; for the man who offers a sacrifice and for the one who does not sacrifice.

"As the good man is, so is the sinner; as the swearer is so is the one who is afraid to swear.  This is an evil that all is done under the sun, that there is one fate for all men.  Furthermore, the hearts of the sons of men are full of evil, and insanity is in their hearts throughout their lives.  Afterwards, they go to the dead.

"For whoever is joined with all the living, there is hope; surely a live dog is better than a dead lion."  Ecclesiastes 9:1-4

"'Behold, My Servant whom I have chosen; My beloved in whom My soul is well-pleased; I will put My spirit upon Him, and He shall proclaim justice to the Gentiles.  He will not quarrel, nor cry out; nor will anyone hear His voice in the streets.

"'A battered reed He will not break off, and a smouldering wick He will not put out until He leads justice to victory and in His name, the Gentiles will hope.'"  Matthew 12:20-21

Doug Wead, a Bible teacher, teases his audiences occasionally by asking, 'Do you know what my favourite verse in all of Scripture is?  It's none of the great classics - John 3:16, the 23rd Psalm, etc.  My favourite, believe it or not, is Ecclesiastes 9:4."[1] "For whoever is joined with all the living, there is hope; surely a live dog is better than a dead lion."

And of course there is lots of laughter, but what an important point for all of us to consider.  When we believe we've really messed up our lives and it seems irrevocable and irretrievable, God is still standing by our side waiting for us to turn to Him.  Then, He will gently blow on the smouldering wick of our lives and reignite the flame of hope in our hearts.  Although we may give up, our loving Father NEVER gives up on us!

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who prays for you each morning, Darlene (Please note the prayer updates, in red and if you have some updates, I need them!)
