Duration or Amount?

“And in the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea.  And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were frightened, saying, ‘It is a ghost!’  And they cried out for fear.  But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.’

“And Peter answered Him and said, ‘Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.’  And He said, ‘Come!’  And Peter got out of the boat, and walked on the water and came toward Jesus.  But seeing the wind, he became afraid, and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, ‘Lord save me!’  And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and took hold of him and said to him, ‘O you of little faith, why did you doubt.’” Matthew 14:25-31

“If they [the disciples] were to place the little faith they did have in God, they would see God work!  On the few other occasions when Jesus rebuked the disciples for their ‘little faith’, it was never a reference to little quantity but that their faith was of little duration.

“Peter had trusted for a while, but when he began to look around and notice the wind and the circumstances he was in, he became afraid as the storm loomed larger in his reckoning than the power of the Lord Jesus Christ.”*

When circumstances whirl around us in massive chaos and our fear mounts; to survive, we must take the faith we have been given and keep our eyes fixed on Jesus Christ, the author and perfector of our lives.  No amount of squirming and flailing about or shouting or crying or running will matter nor will it change circumstances!  We just need to jump in the arms of the trustworthy and faithful Lord Jesus Christ, and rest there.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene
