Perception of Competence

“This I say therefore, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart; and they, having become callous, have given themselves over to sensuality, for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness.  But you did not learn Christ in this way.” Ephesians 4:17-20

“And you were dead [separated] in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience.  Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.” Ephesians 2:-3

“The missing ingredient is GOD HIMSELF.  God did not create man to function and to fulfil his role in independence of Himself, but to be inhabited by God, so that the very presence and life of God might be the enabling in man.”*

The problem seems to be our perception of our competence.  Once we are found by the Father and surrender our lives to Him, we somehow forget He wants our hearts as well.  Yet, we FEEL so capable and with the knowledge that He has now paid the price for our sin, we feel free, which we are; and free to live our lives in whatever way we choose.  Yet His purpose for us is delayed by our self-purpose to manage things FOR Him (or sometimes to simply ignore Him).

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene
