Original Righteousness!

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being by Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness and the darkness did not comprehend it.

“There was the true light, which, coming into the world, enlightens every man. He was in the world, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, not of the will of man, but of God.” John 1:1-5, 9-13

“John MacQuarie discusses our ultimate destiny in this passage from ‘The Humility of God’: ‘If the doctrine of original sin is not to have the last word, it must be confronted with a doctrine of original righteousness. After all, in the Old Testament story righteousness is more original than sin.’”*

I collect “firsts in Scripture” and perhaps if I ever finish this series on “Disappointment With God”, I may do a new series on firsts. But just think of that quote a moment. We focus on sin so much sometimes...but “first in is best placed” and best placed is the Father. Let Him reign in your hearts and mine this New Year in unexpected and wonderful ways!

Take care with love, especially His! Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene
