Who Knows !

“Then the people of Nineveh believed in God; and they called a fast and put on sackcloth from the greatest to the least of them. When the word reached the king of Nineveh, he arose from his throne, laid aside his robe from him, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat on the ashes. And he issued a proclamation and it said, ‘In Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles: ‘Do not let man, beast, herd, or flock taste a thing. Do not let them eat or drink water. But both man and beast must be covered with sackcloth; and let men call on God earnestly that each may turn from the wicked way and from the violence which is in his hands. Who knows, God my turn and relent, and withdraw His burning Anger so that we shall not perish?’” Jonah 3:5-9
We do not control God by our actions or behaviour anymore than a child controls a good parent. Yet God looks at our hearts. Our outward behaviour may look compliant, but it is our heart that demonstrates our attitude. And the King of the Ninevehites was wise to acknowledge this, yet hope in God’s love and forgiveness. All it takes is to ask Him!
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” I John 1:9
What a way to end the week!
