Eating Worms

“Therefore now, O Lord, please take my life from me, for death is better to me than life.’ And the Lord said, ‘Do you have good reason to be angry?’" Jonah 4:3-4

“’If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire; and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But even if He does not, let it be knows to you, ;O king, that we are not going to serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.’” Daniel 3:17-18

“And He withdrew from them about a stone’s throw; and He knelt down and began to pray, saying, ‘Father, if Thou art willing, remove this cup from Me, yet not My will, but Thine be done.’” Luke 22:41-42

Jonah was pretty mad at God and he was pretty discouraged and wanted his own way. His arguments with God before, during and after the salvation of Nineveh are classic. Here we find Jonah “eating worms” (feeling sorry for himself) and trying one last time to try to tell God how to run His world. Sometimes we can slip into that if we are not careful to remember who our Father is and how much He loves us.

Take care to understand His Word. Your servant and friend in Christ, Darlene
