“Now the Lord said to Moses, ‘Cut out for yourself two stone tablets like the former ones, and I will write on the tablets the words that were on the former tablets which you shattered.” Exodus 34:1

“This is the disciple who is testifying to these things and wrote these things, and we know that his testimony is true.  And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were written in detail, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books that would be written.” John 21:24-25

“All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be adequate equipped for every good work.”  II Timothy 3:16

Has anyone ever asked you what your favourite book of the Bible is?  This assignment is meant to help you consider that question.

1.    Set aside an hour and find a place that is quiet where you will not be interrupted.

2.    Bring your Bible, notebook, writing tool and a refreshment.

3.    Settle in and quieten your heart.  Pray and ask your loving Father to give you wisdom from this assignment and thank Him in advance for what you will learn.

4.    Open your notebook and date a fresh page for today and draw a line down the middle of the page (or fold it length wise if that is easier).

5.    Go to the contents section of your Bible and look through the names of the books of the Old Testament (OT).  You may want to leaf through the pages to refresh your memory.  The video above may also help as it is a short refresher of each of the books.

6.    Pick your top five (or more) favourites -- books that contain personal lessons or special stories that you have enjoyed.

7.    On the right side of the page, write the number one.  List the name of the book and opposite the name, write why it is noteworthy for you (write as little or as much as you wish).

8.    Do the same for the New Testament (NT).

9.    Now here is a difficult part.  Look at the OT list first and re-number it for the most favourite at one and continue till you’ve reprioritised them according to your personal choices.

Example:

No.

New No.

Name of Book

Why is this book important/ special to me?

1

1

Genesis

Everything begins here.

It is full of firsts and it starts perfectly and how easy sin enchants me.

2

3

I Samuel

The story of Hannah was so amazing for me.

3

4

Isaiah

To mount up on wings of angels – what a perfect thought.

4

2

Daniel

I learned that even if I don’t get what I want, it is far better to obey the Lord than men.

5

5

Malachi

I learned the value of tithing in this book.

10.    Do the same for the NT list.

11.    Circle your number one book of the OT and the number one of the NT.

When you’ve finished you should have a page or two where you’ve listed and renumbered the books of the OT and NT as they are of most value to your walk with the Lord.  You will find that this hour will be a blessing, especially as you review the reasons you’ve chosen each book (including your ‘number ones’)!

If you get a moment, it would be wonderful to hear your OT and NT choices. (Just send me an email at darlenerichard@gmail.com ).

Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays for you daily)

NEW PRAYER REQUESTS (any updates?)

·      Paul – please pray for him as he is in the final stages of interviews for a job (after more than ten years without work).  Pray the Lord allows him to finally land a role and that the Lord helps him re-enter the work world easily, if it is His will.

·      Update - India train derailment – please pray!  So many died in this tragedy.  So many were injured and traumatised from three trains crashing together.  Pray it is not too late for those trapped and still waiting to be rescued.  Pray for the rescue workers, the medical staff and for comfort for those who have lost loved ones.  Pray for those supporting the survivors and pray for India, because this nation has the fourth highest growth in the Christian faith in the world.

·      UPDATE - Peggy – a dear friend and colleague of my sister-in-law who has been battling with cancer in her neck for years.  Her new oncologist has noted the cancer is getting worse and she is back in hospital where they will re- begin the chemo and radiation.

·      Barbara – the beloved wife of my brother (who recently passed) – thank you for praying for her (and for me as we are both struggling with the loss of Tim).  Please pray God places people in her path who will help her with all the things He knows she needs help with.  Pray for her peace and protection at night.

·      UPDATE – Ray and Kathy – have left for ten days of rest and relaxation.  Please give them travelling mercies and special quality time with each other to refresh their devotion and appreciation of each other and give them new energy for their labours for the Lord.  Give Ray confidence that someone else will be there to care for his mother (Alzheimer’s) during this time.

·      Joni – a long-time friend who is wandering through the challenges of cancer treatment.  Pray for her health carers and for her strength and all the adjustments she must now make during her recovery.

·      UPDATE - Peyton and Carter - Grandchildren of Jeff and Rachael.  Payton is their eldest granddaughter and now a senior in university.  Carter, their son is already a freshman in college.  Both are exceptional students and love the Lord.  Pray they are not distracted by worldly things, that the Lord watches over and protects them, that they continue to do well in their studies and that their love of the Lord increases daily.
