I John 1:9 – Our Daily Bread Video Devotional
By Our Daily Bread (3:20)
[God speaking] “’As for Ishmael, I have heard you;
behold, I will bless him, and will make him fruitful and will multiply him
exceedingly. He shall become the father
of twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation. But My covenant I will establish with Isaac,
whom Sarah will bear to you at this season next year.’ When He finished talking with him, God went
up from Abraham.’” Genesis 17:20-22
Abraham was doubtful and he thought God must be ‘reasonable,
practical’ and ‘sensible’. God fathered
Ishmael in an effort to take matters into his own plan. The consequence for Abraham’s impatient
creativity at trying to fulfill God’s promise another way, God strengthened Ishmael,
made him the father of the future enemy of God’s people.
All of us have sinned and fallen short of what God wants for
us in our lives. Sinning always has consequences,
sometimes they are inconvenient and sometimes those consequences complicate our
relationships with others -- and always compromises our relationship with our
heavenly Father.
In my lifetime, when I set out to do what I think is right
in my own eyes, God uses my ‘bad’ choices to teach and grow me and help me be
more resolute in the future to follow Him rather follow my own ‘creative wisdom’. Thank God, He left me (and you) Spiritual
Soap:
“This is the message we have heard from Him and announce
to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him and
yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; but if we walk
in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one
another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
“If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.” I John 1:5-10
Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still prays
for you daily)
