Andrew Peterson - Is He Worthy?

“And it came about that when Jesus had finished all these words, He said to His disciples, ‘You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man is to be delivered up for crucifixion.’

“Then the chief priests and the elders of the people were gathered together in the court of the high priest, named Caiaphas; and they plotted together to seize Jesus by stealth and kill Him.  But they were saying, ‘Not during the festival, lest a riot occur among the people.’”  Matthew 26:1-5

“Now the Passover and Unleavened Bread was two days off, and the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to seize Him by stealth, and kill Him; for they were saying, ‘Not during the festival, lest there be a riot of the people.’  Mark 14:1-2

“Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread, which is called the Passover was approaching.  And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how they might put Him to death; for they were afraid of the people.” Luke 22:1-2

The religious leaders were no fools and they had become politically aware with the Romans occupying their land.  What they could not tolerate was Jesus wandering around saying He was the Messiah and King of the world for goodness sake.  It would cause a riot and the Romans would blame the leaders of the synagogue.  Silencing Jesus was an easy way to eliminate an annoying nut case and saving the Israelites.

A bit of compromise, a small sacrifice ‘for the people of Israel’ – small price to pay to restore order and their position in the world.  And Jesus knew.  Our world often seems as senseless and political.  Yet we must remember God is always in control and always aware and always powerful enough to manage moment-by-moment situations and He does…for our good and His glory.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who still prays for you each morning.  Darlene
