Brian Gibbon

"For I know that this shall turn out for my deliverance through your prayers and the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, according to my earnest expectation and hope,

"that I shall not be put to shame in anything, but that with all boldness, Christ shall even now, as always, be exalted in my body, whether by live or by death.  For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain." Philippians 1:19-21

One of my dear friends, Brian Gibbon, was in the hospital quite ill.  He was one of the church Elders and he and his wife, Anne, were both very special to my settling into Australia and the church here.

Brian's life had not been easy physically, yet he cared for his lovely family and the church family steadfastly and with an energy you knew was from the Lord.

He loved God's Word and found strength and courage from it even at the last as his body began to shut down for his journey to Heaven.  These particular verses were special to him and his family during this time.

As I came across them in my Bible this morning, I found a little note in the margin to remind me of Brian and how much he meant to me.

We must always keep in mind that the work we do in the Lord's name while we are here is why we ARE here and that our lives matter in ways we will never know.  And this is not just a wish or a hope but a promised expectation!

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who prays for you each morning, Darlene

  • ·        Continue to pray for the special person you identified a few weeks ago in your assignment until they fall into His arms.  Then you can pick another to pray for!

URGENT PRAYER REQUEST

  • Donald Trump -  the new president elect in the USA.  If ever there was a time to pray for an individual, it is now.  No matter who you voted for or wanted as president...it is our responsibility as Christians to remember God has a plan through this man.  Let's pray someone helps him understand the full meaning of giving his life in faith to our gracious Saviour and that he will have someone to disciple him.  So much depends on it.
  • ·        Me - have an interview for a 6 week project today that will give me enough funds and time to travel home for the holidays.  If I do not secure this one, I will have to defer the trip and probably lose the tickets.  I long to see you face-to-face someday.

PRAISE AND THANKSGIVING

  • ·        Fred I – will have surgery 10th January.  He thanks you for praying for him.  Continue to keep him in your prayers.
  • ·        UPDATE -Jo - has found a new temp role until Christmas.  It is not ideal for her training and expertise but she is thankful for having it.  Pray for Steve who is in Washington DC that the remainder of his trip is safe and productive.

PRAY FOR THOSE WITH ONGOING HEALTH CONCERNS

Pease pray for God's mercy and a plan to give Adrian some dignity and comfort.  Please continue to pray for him and his little companion dog, Toby.  Toby may seem trivial to some, but he is very important to Adrian's mental well-being and a clear gift from the Lord during this time of pain and loneliness.
  • ·        Mel - broke her hip and shattered her kneecap, had a hip and knee replacement.  She is home now recovering.  Pray for her healing and that there are family and friends available to care for her during her long recovery time.
  • ·        Doris - is now back in Ashland in the nursing facility of her retirement village.  She has been able to get rid of the back brace and is having regular therapies to help her regain her abilities, including swallowing.  She was asked what she needed to feel better and answered, "Chocolate and coffee." which she is not allowed yet.  She is still not able to swallow well.  She is much happier to be amongst people she knows.
  • ·        Patti (daughter of Doris) needs prayer for healing and refreshment.  She has too many family and other responsibilities.  Pray the Lord gives her wisdom in this area.

  • ·        Aunt Donna - (Doris' sister, age 84) has dementia. Please pray for her daughters for guidance in her care.
  • ·        David R - Feeling good but there is nothing they can do about the continuing deterioration of sight.  Also, his little companion dog, Chandler, now 16 years old, is growing weaker and having trouble walking.  It will be difficult for David to lose him.
  • ·        Joanne - sister to David, who is being overwhelmed by dementia and macular degeneration.  She is one of the most gracious Christian women I have ever known.
  • ·        John - had a large sun melanoma removed from his arm and is recovering.  He lost some of his ability to read after his stroke 2 yrs. ago and doctors believe he has regained as much of that ability as possible.  Please pray for more patience and grace.

  • ·        CK - brother of John above, who is 78 suffered a stroke in April and is increasingly recovering skills, including being able to drive again.  Pray for his continued recovery.
