Too Bright for Light + Two Books

"And I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them.  "

"And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books according to their deeds."  Revelation 20:11-12

This throne has no rainbow representing God's grace in the midst of judgment.  There is no sign of a Lamb on the throne, once slain in substitution to save sinful men.  Just a throne so bright white in its purity it is difficult to even look at.

This is the great throne of Divine justice.  Seated there is the awesome Presence of the triune Godhead, the Creator and King and Judge of all the universe.

Those who have believed on Christ unto salvation will not appear for judgment at the great white throne at all.  (John 5:24).  For those who do the two books will be opened.

In the Book of Life, every name of every person once appeared as potential children of God.  If they, throughout their lifetimes, ignore or reject the gift of Christ, their names are blotted out completely from this book. (Revelation 2:5; Exodus 32:33; Psalm 69:28)

Their names then are recorded in the other book, where each of their deeds is meticulously detailed and carefully reviewed for all to see and for God to judge.

Many whose name appear here will feel pride as they appear before the throne thinking they can rely on their many good deeds --their "On balance I've done more good than bad and certainly I'm better than the next person" lives.  The fact is there is no salvation without dependence on the shed blood of Christ.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who prays for you each morning, Darlene
