Thursday Before Being Crucified

"And there arose also a dispute among them as to which one of them was regarded to be greatest.  And He said to them, 'The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who have authority over them are called 'Benefactors'.

"But not so with you, but let him who is the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as the servant.  For who is greater, the one who reclines at the table, or the one who serves?  Is it not the one who reclines at the table?  But I am among you as one who serves.'" Luke 22:24-27

"Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come forth from God, and was going back to God, rose from supper, and laid aside His garments; and taking a towel, He girded Himself about.  Then He poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded....

"...And so when He had washed their feet, and taken His garments, and reclined at the table again, He said to them, 'Do you know what I have done to you?  You call Me Teacher and Lord; and you are right, for so I am.  If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet.

"'For I gave you an example that you also should do as I did to you.  Truly, truly, I say to you, a slave is not greater than his master; neither is one who is sent greater than the one who sent him.'" John 13:3-5, 13-16

And then the Lord went out to pray.  He cried.  He begged.  He submitted.  He was betrayed.  He was arrested.  He was betrayed.  He was harshly treated.  He was marked between accusers.  He was betrayed.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who prays for you each morning, Darlene
