YouTube – The Gift I’ll Give by Shawna Edwards
Heartfelt tribute – Official Music Video 2023
By – Shawna Edwards (2 mins 37 sec)
“Now the Lord appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, while
he was sitting at the tent door in the heat of the day. When he lifted up his eyes and looked,
behold, three men were standing opposite him; and when he saw them, he ran from
the tent door to meet them and bowed himself to the earth, and said, ‘My Lord,
if now I have found favour in Your sight, please do not pass Your servant
by.
“’Please let a little water be brought and wash your
feet, and rest yourselves under the tree; and I will bring a piece of bread,
that you may refresh yourselves; after than you may go on, since you have
visited your servant.’ And they said, ‘So do, as you have said.’” Genesis
18:1-5
“Let love of the brethren continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to
strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it.” Hebrews
13:2
Last week I started feeling unwell and yesterday went to the
doctor who confirmed the reality of bronchitis and told me I must take time to rest
(the reason there was no WeakDay Devotion yesterday).
I’m rarely unwell and when I am, I resist being fussed
over. However, as I write this, I’m coughing
up a storm despite the medicines and… something is missing -- Sue and
Grant. Sue always ‘senses’ by some
surprising way that there is a need (not just for me).
During both of my COVID bouts and especially when Tim passed,
she’d give me a call to let me know there was a ‘little something’ at the door
and that she and Grant were praying for me.
When I went to the door, there on the welcome mat would be a care
package of three things:
·
a loaf of multigrain sandwich bread
·
five or six little containers of fresh-made soups
·
little plastic cups with chopped fruits in
syrup.
Humble gifts and all I needed. But Sue and Grant are on holiday, now (so pray
for travelling mercies for them) and I’m selfishly missing them in my ‘misery’.
Have you ever known anyone who just did the things that
needed doing, that no one cared to make time to do? I suspect I’m in the category of not making
time for things I know would be acts of kindness for someone, but well, so many
things crowd out my good intentions.
Small, consistent, undeserved, and unexpected gifts can mean
so much to someone. As part of God’s family,
we must be alert (like Sue and Grant are) to the opportunities He places in our
care to be His hands and feet in serving another.
Take care with love, especially His, Darlene (who still
prays for you daily)
