“In
the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was
God. He was in the beginning with
God. All things came into being by Him,
and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life and the life was the light of
men. And the light shines in the
darkness and the darkness did not comprehend it.” John 1:1-5
This
series began from something my Pastor, Simon Flinders, mentioned in one of his
teaching sermons. It was not his key
point, but one word stuck in my mind - “consume”. I wrote it on my study notebook as ‘Consumed
with Christ’ to explore later.
First,
I thought about the passages that occurred to me that contained the word. Only two immediately: Moses and the burning bush that was not
consumed and Daniel’s three friends walking in a fiery furnace without being
consumed.
The
concordance surprised me with 245 occurrences of the word in thirteen Bible
translations! That is a year of ‘weakday’
devotions. We began with Genesis 19:15
and have just completed Revelation 20:9.
It
has been an historic and meditative journey, filled with the newness of verses
that His Word always promises and provides. The timing is ‘God-perfect’ as next Wednesday,
Lent begins and that is such a special time to renew our love of our precious
Saviour. Until then – well -- a bit more
about ‘consumed’.
Take
care with love, especially His! Your
servant and friend in Christ, who still prays for you each morning. Darlene

NEW PRAYER REQUESTS and UPDATES

Please
pray for the health care workers, those trying to contain the spread and most
importantly those who contract the virus – that they are wise and take precautions
to protect others.
o
Today in 30 countries (Iran new today)
o
75,308 confirmed cases
o
12,064 critical condition
o
2,014 reported deaths (all in China except two in Iran and two
in Japan, one each in The Philippines, Hong Kong, Taiwan and France)
- Baby Jolie– 11
months old with meningitis and kidney failure. Has been on dialysis and a
respirator. Her breathing tube now removed,
and she is out of Intensive care.
However, they still MAY HAVE TO AMPUTATE her leg. Please continue to pray her leg will be
saved, her health carers to have wisdom and compassion, her parents to
have patience and peace and that the Lord provides a miracle of healing
for this child. Family so grateful
for all the prayers.
- Savannah – 15-year-old granddaughter of Cliff and Beth, diagnosed with a difficult-to-treat,
psychological disorder with potential serious consequences. New meds seem to be helping. She has a long recover ahead, but there
is progress with this brain injury.
Pray for her attitude, wisdom for her health carers, patience for
her parents and complete healing.
- USA President Donald Trump – It is our responsibility as Christians to
remember God has a plan through this man. If you doubt the importance of his
appointment, just look at how much antagonism there is against him. Surely Satan is NOT happy and means to
thwart God’s plan. Pray someone
helps President Trump understand the true meaning of a personal
relationship with Jesus Christ, that he will have a driving hunger to read
God’s Word for himself and that God sends a Bible-believing Christian to
regularly disciple him in the Truth and that God shuts the mouths of the
false prophets who circle around him.
- Fred – is making plans to move from California to Tennessee in the first
quarter of 2020. Pray for his wise
attention to details and stamina as he makes this life change.
- Tracey – Pray Tracey finds a new role to satisfy her and allow her to grow
and share her skills and wisdom.
- Me – Please pray for the Lord to provide a new project for me and that
my laptop can be fixed soon (if you receive the email version with the
full prayer list, this is why the format is different.
