“’Be
strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the Lord your
God is the one who goes with you. He
will not fail you or forsake you.’ Then Moses called to Joshua and said to him
in the sight of all Israel, ‘Be strong and courageous, for you shall go with
this people into the land which the Lord has sworn to their fathers to give
them, and you shall give it to them as an inheritance. And the Lord is the one who goes ahead of
you; He will be with you. He will not
fail you or forsake you. Do not fear, or
be dismayed.’”
“’Assemble
the people, the men and the women and children and the alien who is in your
town, in order that they may hear and learn and fear the Lord you God, and be
careful to observe all the words of this law.
And their children, who have not known, will hear and learn to fear the
Lord your God, as long as you live on the land which you are about to cross the
Jordan to possess.’”
Deuteronomy 31:6-8, 12-13
Moses did not obey God.
His life was saved by design. His blessings and wealth was
significant. His zeal for his people
proved too strong for his temper. His
call from God was purposeful and dangerous.
He stood his ground against oppression and endeavoured to live his life
in service to the Lord, losing all hope of prosperity and wealth and the
comforts that come from having too much to exhaust in a lifetime.
Yet one day, a sliver of fear, frustration and anger
slipped into his heart for just enough time to act out those feelings (Numbers
20:9-13). Here is an individual who saw
the glory of God (Exodus 33:18-23) and followed God throughout his life and was
prevented from entering the Promised Land because of his disobedience.
Even though Moses would not see the Promised Land
himself, those he led would settle there.
God’s promise to them was strong and unbreakable with conditions. It was up to the people to choose to obey.
Take care with love, especially His! Your servant and friend in Christ, who prays
for you each morning, Darlene
