Immediate Commitment

"And walking by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon who was called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.

"And He said to them, 'Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men.'  And they immediately left the nets and followed Him.

"And going on from there He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets and He called them.

And they immediately left the boat and their father, and followed Him." Matthew 4:18-22

We know Jesus called twelve of the most unlikely men to be His disciples during this time.  These four fishermen were the first according to Matthew.

Do you notice how the verses read 'And they immediately left' what they were doing, their equipment and family to follow, listen and learn from a stranger who they knew in their hearts would change their lives forever.

I wonder what their friends and family thought of such nonsense.  It is not easy to follow Jesus -- not just because of those you may have to leave behind, but also because you have no idea what the future will hold for you as you follow.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who prays for you each morning, Darlene

ANY PRAYER UPDATES?

  • Continue to pray for the special person you identified three weeks ago in your assignment until they fall into His arms.  Then you can pick another to pray for!

URGENT PRAYER REQUEST

  • ·        UPDATE - Adrian - has recently begun cancer treatments every Wednesday.  Each treatment takes three or four days to recover from enough to get up.  Then it is time to return to the hospital for another treatment.  Please pray the Lord will hold him and cuddle him gently through this and would consider healing Adrian from this relentless pain and misery.  Have not had work back from the social worker I spoke with last week.  Pray she makes an extra effort to get him help.  Pray for Adrian's companion dog, Toby, to remain healthy.  He is very important to Adrian's mental well-being and a clear gift from the Lord during this time of pain and loneliness.
  • ·        UPDATE - JR - one of my brother's lifetime friends with rapidly advancing small cell carcinoma in his brain.  He is half way through a series of radiation treatments and has started physical therapy which is helping him emotionally.  Prognosis is that he may have from two weeks to six months to live.  Please pray for his wife, family, friends and the health carers as they deal with this serious situation.  Pray most of all that his heart opens to the love and grace of Jesus' gift of grace.
  • ·        UPDATE - My brother, Tim - Pray for strength, wisdom, courage, health and patience as he ministers to his sweet friend JR (and Dale) during this difficult time.  Tim has shared his testimony with JR, but is unable to visit him in the hospital during this time.
