How to Read This

"A revealing of Jesus, the Messiah.  God gave it to make plain to his servants what is about to happen.  He published and delivered it by Angel to his servant John.  And John told everything he saw:  God's Word -- the witness of Jesus Christ!  Time is just about up." Revelation 1:1-2 The Message

"This book unveils some of the future activities soon to occur in the life of Jesus Christ.  God permitted Him to reveal these things to His servant John in a vision; and then an angel was sent from heaven to explain the vision's meaning.  John wrote it all down -- the words of God and Jesus Christ and everything He heard and saw."  The Living Bible

There are four ways to interpret the book of Revelation:

1.   Preterist - all events are contemporary, all images are word pictures of the day they were living in
2.   Historist - an historical view of what will be unfolding
3.   Futerist - all to happen in the future
4.   Idealist - spiritual principles that remain true throughout eternity.

When Jesus said that these were mysteries, they were designated mysteries for a reason.  When we look at Revelation for ourselves, it is important to remember the Holy Spirit is our ultimate and perfect teacher.

Yet, God's Word is not written to confound us, but to help us move through our lives with His confidence and peace, so we are attractive to those who have not yet met Him.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who prays for you each morning, Darlene
