"'And furthermore, I withheld the rain from you
while there were still three months until harvest. Then I would send rain on one city and on
another city I would not send rain; one part would be rained on, while the part
not rained on would dry up.
"'So two or three cities would stagger to another
city to drink water, but would not be satisfied; yet you have not returned to
Me.'; declares the Lord. I smote you
with scorching wind and mildew; and the caterpillar was devouring your many
gardens and vineyards, fig trees and olive trees; yet you have not returned to
Me,' declares the Lord." Amos
4:7-9
"'I am the Lord, and there is no other; besides
Me there is no God. I will gird you,
though you may have not known Me. That
men may know from the rising to the setting of the sun that there is no one
besides Me.
"'I am the Lord, and there is no other, the one
forming light and creating darkness, causing well-being and creating calamity;
I am the Lord who does all these.'"
Isaiah 45:7
"What about natural
disasters that occur frequently in various parts of the world? Many sensitive Christians struggle over the
multitude of large-scale natural disasters around the world - an earthquake in
one place, famine in another, typhoons and floods somewhere else.
"Thousands of people
are killed, others slowly starve to death.
Entire regions are devastated, crops are ruined, homes destroyed. 'Why
does God allow all this?' we may ask.
'Why does God permit all those innocent children to starve?'"*
All of us struggle when a
disaster of any kind strikes and that's OK.
What is not OK is to think God is simply a spectator watching it all
happen, helpless to stop it. God's reasons
for His actions are designed to bring every individual to His throne, so He can
forgive them and care for them. We can
never be omniscient and understand how in the world He can work through these
happenings...we must KNOW He does and trust Him.
Take care with love,
especially His! Your servant and friend
in Christ, Darlene
