Just Good Friends

“And Mary said: ‘My soul exalts the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. For He has had regard for the humble state of His bondslave; for behold, from this time on all generations will count me blessed. For the Mighty One has done great things for me; and holy is His name. And His mercy is upon generation after generation toward those who fear Him. He has done mighty deeds with His arm; He has scattered those who were proud in the thoughts of their heart. He has brought down rulers from their thrones, and has exalted those who were humble. He has filled the hungry with good things; and set away the rich empty-handed. He has given help to Israel His servant, in remembrance of His mercy, as he spoke to our fathers, as He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and his offspring for ever.’” Luke 1:46-55

Mary might have been 13-16 years old, just able to conceive; surprised by her body as it developed without the added wonder of being with child and knowing she had never been alone with her intended. She visits her relative Elizabeth, not to confirm the angel’s message to her, but to help Elizabeth also come to terms with a conception at the opposite scale - a woman who had for many years tried to conceive with her husband. Mary and Elizabeth must have had some amazing conversations. Isn’t it a miracle how God provides special friends for us throughout our journey; and how, even though we don’t deserve it, they just love us through our own challenges? Thank a friend today for their faithfulness – it is a gift of great love.

Run to God's Word. Take care. Your servant & friend in Christ, Darlene

PS: Please pray earnestly for all who may be facing Christmas alone or without significant loved ones this year.
