Freedom of Truth

Squire Parsons, David Phelps
Battle Hymn of the Republic [Live]

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was in the beginning with God.” John 1:1

“Jesus therefore was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, ‘If you abide in My Word, then you are truly disciples of Mine, and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.  They answered Him, ‘We are Abraham’s offspring, and have never yet been enslaved to anyone how is it that You say, “You shall become free’?’

“Jesus answered them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin.  And the slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever.  If therefore the Son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.’” John 8:31-36

“Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right.  For such is the will of God that by doing right you may silence the ignorance of foolish men.  Act as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as bondslaves of God.  Honour all men; love the brotherhood, fear God, honour the king.” I Peter 2:13-7

Governing more than two people is nearly impossible…unless you govern around a clear, understandable and shared truth.  When America was founded the framers did not make up the foundational vision, they shared a belief that WAS the Truth and wrote with hope around it.

However, it is easy for men and women to slip and slide from the Truth when it suits them.  The Jews in the book of John had surely been slaves once upon a time in Egypt.  And for all the oppression and cruelty and depravity experienced…it was such a fading memory, it was a brag they made to Jesus to argue their point that they did not need to be set free.  How quickly we can forget that sin enslaves.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who still prays for you each morning.
