How Stupid!!

“’So Joshua the son of Nun called the priests and said to them, ‘Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests carry seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of the Lord.’  Then he said to the people, ‘Go forward, and march around the city, and let the armed men go on before the ark of the Lord.’

“And it was so, that when Joshua had spoken to the people, the seven priests carrying the seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the Lord went forward and blew the trumpets; and the ark of the covenant of the Lord followed them.

“And the armed men went before the priests who blew the trumpets, and the rear guard came after the ark, while they continued to blow the trumpets.  But Joshua commended the people, saying, ‘You shall not shout nor let your voice be heard, nor let a word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I tell you, ‘Shout!’  Then you shall shout!” Joshua 6:6-10

How the Israelites must have wondered if this was some kind of joke.  They wanted to take action, not parade around the outside of a big walled city for days on end!  And how difficult it is for that many people to be completely silent!  And what COULD they expect from this?  They had come to conquer the city.  This was the most stupid plan ever!

But the victory was to be the Lord’s, not theirs.  They needed faith to believe that the God of all could bring forth His will for them while they were to watch and trust in Him, not in their strength, skills, determination ... Hummm, sometimes we also need a reminder of this, well, at least I do.

Take care with love, especially His!  Your servant and friend in Christ, who prays for you each morning, Darlene

PS:  My laptop from which I sent the devotions has died and I am using another one now, but haven’t been able to access all the files on my old one…so the devotions may be a bit disrupted for a while.
