“And having arrested Him, they
led Him away, and brought Him to the house of the high priest, but Peter was
following at a distance. And after they
had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had sat down together,
Peter was sitting among them.
“And a certain servant-girl,
seeing him as he sat in the firelight, and looking intently at him, said, ‘This
man was with Him too.’ “But he denied
it, saying, ‘Woman, I do not know Him.’
“And a little later, another
saw him and said, ‘You are one of them too!’
But Peter said, ‘Man, I am not!’
And after about an hour had
passed another man began to insist saying, ‘Certainly this man also was with
Him, for he is a Galilean too.’ “But
Peter said, ‘Man, I do not know what you are talking about.’
“And immediately, while he was
still speaking a cock crowed. And the
Lord turned and looked at Peter. And
Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had told him, ‘Before a cock
crows today, you will deny Me three times.’
And he went out and wept bitterly.” Luke 22:54-62
I
often think of Peter after that day of betrayal and wonder how he ever found
the courage and humility to approach the risen Lord Jesus Christ. Yet, I know He gives us strength to accomplish
great things for His purposes...no matter what our life has been or even is now
or will be in the future. That is triple
forgiveness.
“For while we were still
helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will hardly die for a righteous man;
though perhaps for the good man someone would dare die. But God demonstrates His own love towards us,
in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:6-8
“In this is love, not that we
loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation (full,
complete and perfect payment) for our sins.
“We love, because He first
loved us.” I
