I choose to believe the Bible because it's a reliable collection of historical documents written down by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses that report to supernatural events that took place before, of specific prophecies and claim that their writings are divine rather than human in origin.

The WeakDay Devotion has been written fresh every week day morning since 1999.
Dedicated to those who want a good helping of Scripture each day.
We’ve just completed a series about ‘Foods of the Bible’, dedicated to Audley McLean, an exceptional Bible teacher. Until a new topic is set, it will be random observations.
Discontent In Excess
“Then the sons of Israel, the whole congregation, came to the wilderness of Zin in the first month; and the people stayed at Kadesh. Now Miriam died there and was buried there. There was no water for the congregation, and they assembled themselves against Moses and Aaron. The people thus contended with Moses and spoke, saying, ‘If only we had perished when our brothers perished before the Lord!
“’Why then have you brought the Lord’s assembly into…
Offer Your Best
“Juda said to his father Israel, ‘Send the land with me and we will arise and go, that we may live and not die, we as well as you and our little ones. I myself will be surety for him; you may hold me responsible for him. If I do not bring him back to you, and set him before you, then let me bear the blame before you forever. For if we had not delayed, surely by now…
Are you perfect?
““By this will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Every priest stands daily ministering and offering time after time the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins; but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins fort all time, sat down at the right hand of God, waiting from that time onward until His enemies be made a footstool for His feet.
“For by one offering He has perfected for…

Like a Flea!
“Then Saul recognised David’s voice and said, ‘Is this your voice, my son David?’ And David said, ‘It is my voice, my lord the king.’ He also said, ‘Why then is my lord pursuing his servant? For what have I done? Or what evil is in my hand?’
“’Now therefore, please let my lord the king listen to…

“The Lord said to him [Elijah], ‘Go, return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus, and when you have arrived, you shall anoint Hazael king over Aram; and Jehu the son of Nimsha you shall anoint king over Israel; and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah you shall anoint as prophet in your place.
“’It shall come about, the one who…
The ‘Complainers’
“Now the people became like those who complain of adversity in the hearing of the Lord; and when the Lord heard it, His anger was kindled, and the fire of the Lord burned among them and consumed some of the outskirts of the camp.
“The people therefore cried out to Moses, and Moses prayed to the Lord and the fire died out. So the name of that place was called…
Pressing Olives
“With what shall I come to the Lord and bow myself before the God on High? Shall I come to Him with burnt offerings, with yearling calves? Does the Lord take delight in thousands of rams, in ten thousand rivers of oil?
“’Shall I present my firstborn for my rebellious acts, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He has told you, O man, what is good; and…
Shaken Fruit
“’Now in that day the glory of Jacob will fade, and the fatness of his flesh will become lean. It will be even like the reaper gathering the standing grain, as his arm harvests the ears, or it will be like one gleaning ears of grain in the valley of Rephaim.
“’Yet gleanings will be left in it like the shaking of an olive tree, two or three olives on the topmost bough, four or…

Battle Bread
“[God speaking] “’But as for you, take wheat, barley, beans, lentils, millet and spelt, put them in one vessel and make them into bread for yourself; and you shall eat it according to the number of the days that you lie on your side, three hundred and ninety days. Your food which you eat shall be twenty shekels a day by weight; you shall eat it from time to time.
“’The water you drink shall be…

“Most blessed of women is Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite; most blessed is she of women in the tent. He asks for water and she gave him milk; in a magnificent bowl she brought him curds.

Murky Milk
[Job speaking with God] “’Your hands fashioned and made me altogether, and would You destroy me? Remember now, that You have made me as clay’ and would You turn me into dust again?
Did You not pour me out like milk and curdle me like cheese; cloth me with skin and flesh, and knit me together with bones and sinews?
“’You have granted me…

‘Then the Lord spoke to Moses, ‘Depart, go up from here, you and the people whom you have brought up from the land of Egypt, to the land of which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, ‘To your descendants I will give it.’
“’I will send…

Who will give us meat to eat? We remember the fish which we used to eat free in Egypt, the cucumbers and the,…
Mystery of Provision
“See, the Lord has given you the sabbath; therefore, He gives you bread for two days on the sixth day. Remain every man in his place; let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.’ So the people rested on the seventh day. The house of Israel named it manna, and it was like coriander seed, white, and the taste was like wafers with honey.
“Then Moses said, ‘This is what the Lord hass,…
Humility
“The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. As it is written in Isaiah the prophet: ‘Behold I send My messenger ahead of You, who will prepare Your way; the voice of one crying in the wilderness, make ready the way of the Lord, make His paths straight.’’
“John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness,…

“Then David came to Mahanaim. And Absalom crossed the Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him. And Absalom set Amasa over the army in place of Joab. Now Amasa was the son of a man whose name was Ithra the Israelite, who went in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash, sister of Zeruiah, Joab’s mother. And Israel and Absalom camped in the land of Gilead.
“Now when David had come to Mahanaim,…

“It is good to give thanks to the Lord and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; to declare Your lovingkindness in the morning and Your faithfulness by night, with the ten-stringed lute and with the harp, with resounding music upon the lyre. For You, O Lord, have made me glad by what You have done.
“I will sing for joy at the works of Your hands. How great are Your works, O Lord! Your thoughts are very deep.
