Cashless Charade

“Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb and he spoke as a dragon.

“And he causes all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves, to be given a mark on their right hand or on their forehead, and he provides that no one will be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the mark, either the name of the beast or the number of his name.” Revelation 13:11,16-17

Convenient tap-and-pay, cashless money management is alluring, however, it can be a trap and has been proven to result in spending more of our hard-earned funds.

NOTE: Although the original article I was sent was attributed to Dave Ramsey, he did not write it (check Snopes.com). He has, however, commented on how troubling a totally cashless society could be.

(Thanks to Patti S. - for sharing the idea with me.).

HERE'S WHAT NO CASH COULD MEAN:

A cashless society means no cash - no bills, no coins -- zero. Not even a little bit of cash here and there.  (Thinks of the importance of bartering in a cashless society and misses Timmy who was highly skilled at bartering).

Cashless would mean fully digital, fully traceable, fully controlled.  No buying or selling without the 'Mark' of the beast.  It could have heaps of unexpected results to the way money is managed today, such as:

•      If you are struggling with the monthly mortgage payment, it is difficult to get paid in cash from doing odd jobs to get you through.

•      A child won't be able to take a job helping a local farmer to earn a bit of summer cash.

•      No more cash slipped into the hands of a child as a good luck charm or from their grandparent when going on holidays.

•      No more money in birthday cards.

•      No more piggy banks for your child to collect pocket money and learn about the value of earning.

•      No more cash for a rainy-day fund or for something special you were putting $20 a week away for.

•      No more little jobs on the side because your wages barely cover the bills or put food on the table.

•      It will be harder to donate to many charities.

•      No more odd yard sale or arranging to sell bits and pieces from your home you no longer want/ need for cash in return.

What a cashless society works toward is for:

•      Banks have more control of every 'penny' you own.

•      Transactions would be recorded and reported centrally.

•      Access to your money could be blocked at the click of a button when/ if a bank or the tax office needs ‘clarification’ from you.

•      The government could ultimately decide limits on your spending.

If you are a customer, try to pay with cash when convenient/ possible.  If you are a shop owner, provide the option to trade in cash.  Cash remains legal tender and it is our right to pay with cash even though banks are trying to make it increasingly difficult.

Most of all, it might be a good time to re-read Revelation 13:1-18.  However, always remember, God's plan will work out for our good and His glory, no matter what.

NOTES:  I choose to believe the Bible because it's a reliable collection of historical documents written down by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses.  They reported supernatural events that took place before, of specific prophecies; and claim that their writings are divine rather than human in origin.

The Five Solas:  Individuals are saved by grace alone, through faith alone in Christ alone, as revealed by Scripture alone to the glory of God alone!
