The Reveal
“Then Joseph said to his brothers, ‘Please come closer to me.’ And they came closer. And he said, ‘I am your brother Joseph, whom you sold into Egypt. And now do not be grieved or angry with yourselves, because you sold me here; for God sent me before you to preserve life.
“For the famine has been in the land these two years, and there are still five years in which there will be neither plowing nor harvesting. And God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant in the earth, and to keep you alive by a great deliverance. Now, therefore, it was not you who sent me here, but God; and He has made me a father to Pharaoh and lord of all his household and ruler over all the land of Egypt.” Genesis 45:5-8
I love this passage because it speaks for surprise at the truth! Just imagine you are one of those naughty brothers who sold their brother for silver because of their jealousy and resentment. This reveal would have hit them so hard!
Some days it is difficult to imagine God is paying attention to what is happening in our lives, our families, our neighbourhoods, our country… well, you know what I mean. God is sovereign over all in all, yet, it often takes a BIG reveal from Him to remind us that He does not miss one second of it all -- that nothing is accidental and certainly never purposeless. That all is for our good and His glory!
“And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fulness of Christ.
“As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves, and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the scheming; but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him, who is the head, even Christ, from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by that which every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.” Ephesians 4:11-16
