Thanks for Orange Juice!

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice!  Let your forbearing spirit be known to all men.  The Lord is near.  Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.  And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

“Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is right, what ever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute.  If there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.  The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things; and the God of peace shall be with you.” Philippians 4:4-9

Thankfully that’s one of my memory verses—and I really needed it this morning.

When I went downstairs for coffee and opened the fridge, I almost missed it -- a gallon jug of my favourite freshly squeezed orange juice (extra pulp) had been pushed to the back and exploded.

The bottle was swollen and wedged tight; juice had sprayed the walls and pooled across every shelf, the drawers and the door racks.  It took over two hours of dismantling and scrubbing to clean the sticky mess.

The whole time I was mumbling those verses under my breath.  Only later, back at my desk, did it hit me:  for today, the message is that a little thanksgiving goes a long way and that is great to memorise Scripture!

NOTES:  I choose to believe the Bible because it's a reliable collection of historical documents written down by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses.  They reported supernatural events that took place before, of specific prophecies; and claim that their writings are divine rather than human in origin.

The Five Solas:  Individuals are saved by grace alone, through faith alone in Christ alone, as revealed by Scripture alone to the glory of God alone!
