Giving Posca
“At mealtime Boaz said to her, ‘Come here, that you may eat of the bread and dip your piece of bread in the vinegar.’ So she sat beside the reapers; and he served her roasted grain, and she ate and was satisfied and had some left.
“When she rose to glean, Boaz commanded his servants, saying, ‘Let her glean even among the sheaves, and do not insult her. Also, you shall purposely pull out for her some grain from the bundles and leave it that she may glean, and do not rebuke her.’” Ruth 2:14-16
“After this, Jesus, knowing that all things had already been accomplished, to fulfil the Scripture, said, ‘I am thirsty.’ A jar full of sour wine (vinegar) was standing there; so they put a sponge full of the sour wine upon a branch of hyssop and brought it up to His mouth. Therefore, when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, ‘It is finished!’ And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.” John 19:28-30
Vinegar is mentioned ten times in the Bible and was often used in purification rites, cleansing physical spaces, preservation of food, cleansing of wounds. There was a connection between vinegar and hardship during times of suffering.
At communal feasts and sacrifices, vinegar was often mixed with water to create a refreshing drink, called posca. It became a common drink among the Roman soldiers, called ‘budget wine’. This is thought to be what was offered to Jesus at the cross out of compassion because it had the ability to quench thirst and provide some sustenance.

NOTES: I choose to believe the Bible because it's a reliable collection of historical documents written down by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses. They reported supernatural events that took place before, of specific prophecies; and claim that their writings are divine rather than human in origin.
The Five Solas: Individuals are saved by grace alone, through faith alone in Christ alone, as revealed by Scripture alone to the glory of God alone!
