Thank You for grief

“Soon afterwards He went to a city called Nain; and His disciples were going along with Him, accompanied by a large crowd.  Now as He approached the gate of the city, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a sizeable crowd from the city was with her.

“When the Lord saw her, He felt compassion for her, and said to her, ‘Do not weep.’  And He came up and touched the coffin; and the bearers came to a halt.  And He said, ‘Young man, I say to you, arise!’

“The dead man sat up and began to speak.  And Jesus gave him back to his mother.  Fear gripped them all, and they began glorifying God, saying, ‘A great prophet has arisen among us!’’ and, ‘God has visited His people.’”  Luke 7:11-16

Regretfully, I was not there when my Daddy or my ‘little’ brother passed into Glory.  However, I was with my Mom minutes after she passed.  I am sure ‘heart-rending’ is not a strong enough way to express how I felt.  Yet, as I lay beside her on her bed, cuddling and talking with her, I prayed to thank the Lord for His meticulous plan for her life (Psalm 139) that would save her and bring her release.

Truth be told, I kept imagining she was still there.  She was still warm and soft.  I kept watching her face in the hope that every doctor and nurse was just mistaken and that she would smile at me again.  But I also knew that Jesus was triumphant in bringing His sweet daughter home.  Although, I fluctuated for weeks between the pain and joy from my loss, nothing could surpass my joy knowing she was with her Saviour.

NOTES:  I choose to believe the Bible because it's a reliable collection of historical documents written down by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses.  They reported supernatural events that took place before, of specific prophecies; and claim that their writings are divine rather than human in origin.

The Five Solas:  Individuals are saved by grace alone, through faith alone in Christ alone, as revealed by Scripture alone to the glory of God alone!
