Thanks In The Midst Of Pain
“Now it happened on the day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house that a messenger came to Job and said, ‘The oxen were plowing and the donkeys feeding beside them, and the Sabeans attacked and took them. They also slew the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you.’
“While he was still speaking, another also came and said, ‘The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you.’
“While he was still speaking, another also came and said, ‘The Chaldeans formed three bands and made a raid on the camels and took them and slew the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you.’
“While he was still speaking, and other also came and said, ‘Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house, and behold, a great wind came from across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young people and they died; and I alone have escaped to tell you.’
“Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head, and fell to the ground and worshipped. And he said, ‘Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I shall return there. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.’” Job 1:13-21
Most people have heard or read the story of the repeated tragedies Job faced. Most of us have wondered what it was like to be in Job’s shoes. We’ve wondered how God could allow so many disasters and deaths. We’ve read the conversations of his friends and wife for clues. How could Job have the strength to never curse God!!
The book serves to encourage us to trust God and thank Him in all things because He never leaves us to walk alone (Psalm 23). It is true that most times we only recognise His presence long afterward the pain is past. He is in everything (Psalm 139) and over everything for our good and His glory. His love is beyond our comprehension, but not beyond our trust.

NOTES: I choose to believe the Bible because it's a reliable collection of historical documents written down by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses. They reported supernatural events that took place before, of specific prophecies; and claim that their writings are divine rather than human in origin.
The Five Solas: Individuals are saved by grace alone, through faith alone in Christ alone, as revealed by Scripture alone to the glory of God alone!
