1. For What God Has Done

“O give thanks to the Lord, call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples.  Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; speak of all His wonders.  Glory in His holy name; let the heart of those who seek the Lord be glad.  Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His face continually.  Remember, His wonderful deeds which He has done.  His marvels and the judgments from His mouth.

“O seed of Israel His servant, Sons of Jacob, His chosen ones!  He is the Lord our God; His judgments are in all the earth.  Remember His covenant forever, the word which He commanded to a thousand generations.” 1 Chronicles 16:8-15

This is just the beginning of David’s prayer of thanksgiving after the Ark of God’s Covenant to His chosen people was finally brought into the city of Jerusalem.  The entire prayer continues until verse 38.  Within it are the four elements of true thanksgiving and we will look at each one as we continue through this prayer.

Today focuses us on remembering God’s faithfulness in our lives -- what He has done that we have seen with our own eyes and what we have learned from parents, elders and our Bible teachers.

As a challenge, perhaps start today’s prayers after a bit of a personal inventory of life blessings.  This may result in a long and thoughtful prayer.  God is so compassionate, understanding, patient and generous with us…even though we stumble.  Yet, He gave His only Son, Jesus to die for us and to free us from the impossible burden of our sins!

NOTES:  I choose to believe the Bible because it's a reliable collection of historical documents written down by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses.  They reported supernatural events that took place before, of specific prophecies; and claim that their writings are divine rather than human in origin.

The Five Solas:  Individuals are saved by grace alone, through faith alone in Christ alone, as revealed by Scripture alone to the glory of God alone!
